Dear Neighbors,

We have had a few separate instances of someone stealing packages off of people’s front porches in the middle of the day. We have video evidence in at least two separate cases from over the last year. We also recently had a report from a resident of someone attempting to break into people’s vehicles. The HOA is encouraging our neighborhood to remain vigilant, however, we cannot allow a witch hunt to form- we owe it to ourselves and our neighbors to be alert, but also respectful.

That said, here are a few things we can do as a community:

1. Watch for suspicious activity, but report evidence to the HOA if you have it. This may be witnessing someone take a package off a porch that is not their own; it may also be more photo/video footage. It may also be watching someone trying to enter multiple car doors.

2. Communicate with your immediate neighbors. If you expect a package, ask a neighbor if they will be home to watch it or even receive it for you. If you are out of town, ask them to watch your vehicle if it is here.

3. If you are not home and no one can receive your package, consider requesting/arranging for your packages be delivered only with signature upon receipt. Or opting to pick it up from the package’s office, at least for the time being.

4. If you have a video door bell, consider opting into North Charleston PD’s Registration Program. It is a partnership between residents with security cameras that allows you to connect and join a city wide network of cameras. This is a personal choice for residents to make, and you can find more information on the City of North Charleston’s website: https://connectncpd.org

5. Please do not leave valuables in your car. There are also different approaches to avoiding costly break ins, such as shattering windows or breaking car doors, by leaving your door unlocked but your vehicle empty. Obviously, this is a two edged sword so please heed this advice at your own discretion. It spared my vehicle from damage when they opened my door and stole petty cash from my armrest, but I recognize that not everyone has the ability to empty their vehicles and this also allows for easy access to any interior vandalization.

Furthermore, though one of our board members has worked to contact the police, we have been told the HOA cannot place a report on behalf of the thief’s victims.

If you have had a package stolen, please consider filing a report with North Charleston PD. If you have had somebody break into your car, please consider filing a report. We strongly advise you make a report, even if the item stolen was not “valuable” per se. It’s becoming a persistent issue for not just one but many residents, and filing a report will encourage NCPD to take the thefts seriously.

This is an important measure proposed by the Board to ammend our governing documents, in order to secure the long-term financial stability of our community. Voting is open until March 14th, 2026. The Riverway website has been updated to reflect the 2026 schedule for both trash collection and recycling. This information can be found under the "Community" tab. Additionally, information regarding what kind of articles are acceptable for pick up (for both trash and recycling) is included. Please know that the board is discussing options for controlling bulk waste in the neighborhood now that we have done away with the bulk trash area. The city DOES pick up bulk waste in the early morning on Tuesdays (our regular pick up day), but there are guidelines to how bulk waste must be set out for pick up. Please refrain from putting bulk waste out until Monday evenings and please adhere to the North Charleston guidelines for pick up.

Regarding parking, we have seen an increase in parking violations lately. Please know that ALL units are assigned TWO parking spaces. Residents may NOT park in neighboring units' spaces without the consent of their neighbors. Street parking is available on a first come, first serve basis. Guests may NOT block any resident's spots; guests are allowed to park where they do not impede on traffic, in culdesacs, and any areas ajacent to green space. Homeowners and tenants alike may report any parking concerns to the Riverway Board via email or phone. A violation notice will be issued first, but repeated offenses will result in towing of offending vehicles at the owner's expense.

To better control this issue, we have published a new survey to collect information about resident's vehicles in order to issue NEW parking decals. To access this survey, please visit your EasyHOA login portal and go to "Surveys," or request a paper form via email and submit it to the board. Tenants should submit their information too; at this moment, they should request a paper form.

A walk-through of the community has revealed issues with trash and recycling bins. Please ensure your/your tenant's bin is taken out each week, whether full or not, and taken off the curb within 24 hours of being emptied. Also, bins are only to be stored neatly either on the ends of buildings or behind them.

Linked is the 2026 curbside recycling schedule for our community. Our days are marked in green (typically every other Thursday).

Landscaping services around the neighborhood began the week of December 15. It is expected to take several weeks for the landscaping cleanup to be completed. These services focused on restoring the neighborhood to a manageable state ahead of regular landscape services, which will begin in the New Year. Affected areas include: front garden beds, building alleys, and specific shrubs located in common areas.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you remove all personal belongings from these areas, INCLUDING Christmas decorations. You may put these decorations back up at the end of next week, but anything obstructing landscaping services is at liberty to be removed and disposed of as per our HOA's governing documents. Please pick up your items!
